Self-rising flour is an all-purpose flour to which leavening and salt have been added; it is not suitable for yeast breads. It is best not to substitute self-rising for all-purpose flour; however, all-purpose can be substituted for self-rising by making the following adjustments: For 1 cup self-rising flour, use 1 cup all-purpose flour plus 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
homemade baking powder is 1 part baking soda and 2 parts cream of tarter
