Ok fellas...and gals to..
We don't have "perch" around these parts. Not in numbers anyway. Two years ago while fishing a relatively small lake in S. IL. I was catching them. Small ones averaging 8"'s. I didn't even know for sure what they were till I did some searching on them.
I have heard how good they are as table fare, but when i dressed a few, they didn't appear to be much for eatin to me. Red meat, thin, and sorta....ummm....mushy lookin meat. Is that how they are up north? Or is it this warmer water and/or this specific lake?
I did ask a CPO and he said yes they are perch, stocked as a test to control something in the lake, don't recall what he said they were for though.
The cats we catch from that lake are the best I have ever eaten, don't know exactly why, but they taste alot differnt than the same fish from other lakes/rivers.
