I had a guy from Missouri pass a tip on to me several years ago, and thought that I would pass it on to those of you that don't already utilize it. In otter country, try making some caster mound sets in small channels. We have had consistent catches of otter using castor mounds, and of course beaver as well. If the natural channel isn't there, don't be afraid to make a path by walking over the vegatation and making what appears to be a beaver or muskrat run. Then build your castor mound about 12-15 inches above the water line, lure up with a good strong castor (I like Hawbaker's), then add your 280 or 330 and blend it in using some of the natural vegatation.

I know here in missouri that works for sure. Thats is what makes trapping for beaver with castor mounds ater january rough. They will readilly go to them. Great shot JD!

merdy1,
Yes, it seems as if a little later in the year they tend to migrate from the larger bodies of water into the small feeder creeks and streams. Any feeder stream that feeds into or out of a big creek would be pinchpoint to check out.

my peronal opinion is that the otters are atractted to the slick slide, just another place to have fun. when i set those up, I always put a little Hawbakers Otter lure there too
