This one is a three parter.
What branch of the US military conducted a study on the insulating qualities of different animal fur, and why? What animals fur was the most insulating? (two animals tied for first)
Same rules, no Googling or Yahooing. Don't trust wikopedia. One karma.

Army.
wolves and wolverine
(and I think it was not only the insulating quality of the wolverine fur but also because frost does not accumulate on it wasn't it?)

One person has the military branch right, another person has the animals right. Now somebody put them together.

I, said it first!!!! The navy would send expeditions to Anarctica for months at a time. Civil engineers also accompanied them(in the 60's. Expect they did some experimenting then.

I see the right answers, just not all in the same place. This will be the last 3 part question, too complicated.

Okay. The Air Force researched the insulating qualities of different furs for the fur trim on the hoods of the parkas they were issuing. Synthetic fur had no insulating quality at all. Wolf, wolverine and badger all tied. And yes, the accumulation of frost was a big factor.
This information came from Raising Rabbits Profitably by Jim Parks, in the chapter on raising rabbits for fur.
