Coyotes and fox don't get along. So when you catch a double with a fox in one set and a coyote in the other, which got caught first? This fox and coyote are about 50 yards apart. If the coyote got caught first, how come the fox came along? If the fox got caught first, how come the coyote did not kill the fox? They are now both side by side on the stretchers and not fighting in the least!

Nice pic. I would venture to say the fox got caught first and was laying there all peaceful and quiet, trying to hide. Regardless , they're history now. Which one did You skin first, and why?? lol

Earl could be right, but both animals are curious and the fox may have been trying to ease in close to the trapped coyote just to see what it was up to. I once saw a coyote following a badger, he stayed about 15 feet behind it, but followed it for quite a ways before he saw me and lost interest in the badger, and decided he was more interested in what was over the next hill.

My reasoning for the fox is that I don't think that the fox would be able to reason that the Coyote couldn't move. If a coyote saw a fox that close in open ground like that , the fox would be smart enough to know that the coyote could run him down. IMHO

Yeah. The fox got skinned first. But that was because he got sprayed with raid first. Mercy, they are flea infested little guys.
I can only surmise that the coyote got caught first. The fox seems him hopping around unaturally, and got curious for a while. Once that was satisfied he found a real interesting smell coming from under that cow pie.... Just a guess though.

I would think the tracks would tell the tale.
But not knowing what is behind the picture taker anything would be a guess.
My guesstimate is that the fox got caught first. Then Mr. Coyote followed that contour line towards the fox and either found something that interested him down a hole and got caught.
OR he put his foot in the right spot while going over to check out Mr. Fox.
