do ya'll ever feel like you are trying to catch every critter in one set and worrying if the set is exactly right. i do, sometimes i find the place where i know the sets need to go then i think i need the perfect spot then the perfect set so i just stop and think......
K.I.S.S
KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID
i think a lot of us tend to over think the animal. they ain't that bright or they would be trapping us. you just got to use common sense.
the internet is one of the best places to learn to trap but all the info can be over whelming. just slow down take you time and find what works for you.

I been reading trapping forums for a year now.
Funny thing is, I don't think I have changed a single thing in my trapping or fur handling as a result.
Am I set in my ways or what?
Next year I might try out some different lures but I likely would have done that anyway.
Still, it's fun to see how other people do it.

bill i ain't saying you can't learn from an animal but there is not one out there that can't be caught. some put them on a pedestal like they are gods or something. i wouldn't tell anyone that a stinking ole coyote is smarter than me. lol
i have read where the pros have a problem animal that they have a hard time catching. it may take a while but they will catch him then they are like why didn't i try that to start with. we as human can log that in our memory and use it next time but a coyote can't they are conditioned to fear certain things by trial and error. they don't wake up one day thinking huh i ain't falling for the ole step down dirthole set. the hard ones have either had there toes pinched or a trap blow up in there face. look at doubles they see there buddy over there dancing around in a trap and they go right over and get in the other one how dumb is that. lol
all i had heard and read was how smart a coyote is heck i wouldn't even set for them because it thought i couldn't catch them. well i caught a full grown large female in a cat set and i thought wait a minite they ain't as smart as i thought and i have been catching them every since. no i don't use cat sets to catch them i know that aint the norm. i like flat sets mainly with a dirt hole now and then.

thats were people tend to mess up.i learned a long time ago don't bother messing with the trouble makers on the line. get the pups fast as you can and keep on moving.the pups are real easy fast and stupid.when i start to have one give me fits out comes that snare and if that fails then i move on and extend my line.no matter how hard you try you will never catch them all.if you watch long enuff they will show you whats wroung.but i will not waste my time if i don't catch him in two weeks i'm gone to a new location.thats why i like snares for yotes because thier are very little problems.75% of my coyote long line is snares.all snares are on kill poles and pigtails.
