I usually buy fish oil but i though it would be more cost effective to make it so i saved a bunch of Northerns from this summer cut it up in VERY fine chunks and stuck it outside with a heavy cloth over the top to keep flys out. Well unfortunatley i don't have a garage and it's on the porch. It smells like Butt. The wives a little perturbed and wow does it stink, is this normal or did i make it wrong?

Normal reaction from the female of the species. Has any oil separated and came to the top yet?

I guess northerns must not be a very oily fish. When you siphon off the oil from the gunk, let me know what it smells like. The oil by it's self ought to have a different smell than all the other juice and detritus. TC!!! i cant believe you said that Shoot, you oughta see my daughter when the UPS/FEDEX/USPS dude delivers a package from a supply house. I usually can't wait, and give it the "crack the lid and sniff" test right away. She hollers EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!, runs for her bedroom with a can of vanilla fields air freshener, and disappears for at least 20 minutes, muttering maledictions under her breath for the whole time. The ex was the same way. No appreciation for the finer things in life. My boxers are my best buddies when the lure delivery is made-they WUB me to death!

I'm not sure I understand the question. You have left chunks of fish on your porch for a month and it is smelling bad? I can't imagine why. LOL!
The stuff is going to stink, but like mentioned above once you pull the oil off the oil shouldn't have that bad of an odor. Use a turkey baster to suck the oil away from the juice and pieces of rotten fish!
