Grey fox love persimmons, I'm sure other critters like em too. Was thinking my fur shed blender has fine particles of beaver castor in it from the summer castor making. Was thinking of getting some persimmons off the tree by the fur shed blending em up with the castor particles, adding some glycerine and a dap of 100 proof vodka. What do ya'll think. Make a paste out of it for dirt holes.

whats yuck? You have the persimmon smell and color, aroma of beaver castor(universal attractor), glycerine is odorless, and vodka is there to keep it from spoiling(I think I was told that is the reason for it). Doing it tomorrow. Will let ya'll know if it works.

I bet persimmon, castor, and a touch of anise(just a touch) would be a kick azz greyfox/coon attractor. Them greys love persimmons, so do coon. Persimmon/castor would probably be attractive to early season 'yotes, before they transition over to a fall/winter diet.

TC's recipe would work......with or without the anise........IMO anyway. simmons by them selves mixed to not freeze up will catch greys and coon...and the ever present possum. or take them simmons and go to the local river/lake....find a simmon tree near the shore line...sit down ...build ya a fire...and catch ya some catfish and/or carp.......eat the catfish and use the carp for coon bait.......I have spent many a day/night doin that......lots of fun and ya get good viddles plus good bait all at once.........

If I'm not mistaken, persimmons and/or maybe paw-paws are the two main ingredients in Mulligans Tutti-Frutti canid bait. Never had a lot of luck with it for fox, but the coon sure loved it!

when trying to make something edible with persimons, butter, jelly, or fermented juice one of the first things to do is take the seeds out of the fruit before you do anything else. now if you want a bait/lure that is persimons try thihs. take two quart of persimon meat (remember take the seeds out) add water until there is about 1 in. of water over the persimons, bring to a boil and then simmer for an hour. run same thru a blender, now add the following 8oz. persimon oil 8oz. honey essence 8oz. phynel acidic acid crystals (not shure how thats spelled) 4oz. vodka 8oz. glycerine mox this well and keep in a cool place and dont tighten the cap/lid on your storage bottle. most any type of fruit bait can be used in this lure as long as you use the same type of oil or extract as the fruit your useing.

i'm not saying sam is purdy or anything but the vodka is a preservative. any alcohol would work but the vodka isnt bad for you like some of the others.

the vodka keeps it from fermenting (spoiling) the glycrine keeps it from molding.
