I picked up about 60 Victor #1 Single longsprings (not stop loss) got em for next to nothing so i figured i'd use em as muskrat traps on a drowner, but then i actually set one... when set the loose jaw is very high, the trap doesn't sit level at all. the jaw has to have about a 20 to 30 degree angle to it. how can i fix that so both jaws are level?

Turn the spring toward the dog and it should sit level.

Do yourself a favor and sell them and get you some 1.5 coils. I used #1's in the past and lost more fur than I caught. Save yourself a lot of trouble, sell them or leave them in the shed

number 1's are good for rats and mink but a poor choice as a coon trap....the best bet if you use them.... use them on floats for rats and get some 1 1/2 coils for pocket sets...but i would not sell them because they do have a place on the line

Take the junkier ones and remove the spring and add the spring to your better traps. The extra spring won't ride as high, due to the curvature of the jaws, but it will hold coon and fox. I used to have a lot of these and never had a problem with them.

hawkeyes is right with that set up you would have a first class #11 long spring trap and a dang good coon trap

If the springs are weak ya can redo them and make them just as strong as new. Worst part about them traps is the pan wobble but even that can be fixed.
To re-strengthen the springs ya can either take them off......lay them on a soild surface and use a pipe to spread them by forcing the pipe inside the spring....or just use the pipe while they are still assembled. I prefer to take them off ....it is easier in the long run.
I have dozens I still use for rats and mink....but do use some for coon too. I most all the time set them on drowners though. I even use 0's for mink...and love those little traps.
