for most of the lower 48's game animals...from groundhogs, prairie dogs to black bear, elk and deer.
If i had tochoose just one it would be the 25-06..........loaded from 85 grain ballistic tips to 117 gr boat tail spire points!

I'd be hard pressed to give up the 7mm. Enough to get the job done on the big side. Might be a little big for groundhogs but seems right to me...

ballistically speaking the 7mm is one of the most efficient calibers made. And you have a wide array of bullets to choose from. I think that is a good choice! Would be hard on a groundhog though...lol ;D

i love my 22-250, but that might be a little light, next step for me is dads 6mm, i love that gun probably more than him, but i still dont think i could kill a bear with it at range, so id have to go with my 30-06, kills what the 250 wont, dosent need to come out of the safe often, but when it does there will be bloodshed

The only bear I ever killed with a rifle was with a 6mm, range was about 100 yards, which is about as long a shot as you are gonna get in the mountains. He weighed around 200 lbs.

Hear tell Oz can kill 3 at one time with the 300...at 50, 100 and 300 yards....50 is with the muzzle blast, 100 is by "barking" him and 300 is with the ricochet ;D

I use my 6.5x55 more than anything (except .223). It's more accurate than it's operator. Deer, coyotes and woodchucks have felt her sting. She's a keeper.
The downside is loaded ammo can be hard to find locally so I reload.

What about a 12 guage? You can kill anything from squirrels to bears to geese....lots of variety, just limited with range but, where I live that's more than enough. No changing guns, just loads, chokes, or barrels. You can even use it for home defense. If I could only own one gun it would be a 12 guage.

I love my .223 but it prolly couldnt do the job on a elk or black bear. So my chose would have to be a 25-06 to.
