i know what you mean about a million rounds out of the 22lr, id hate to think about what i could buy with all the money ive spent on long riles over the years. just to clearify, i meant the one that gets the job done, 1 point for the 22mag

I have a 22 mag and a .17 There about the same. I would still go with the 17 JMO.

Haven't shot one yet but from what I've read the 5mm rimfire looks to be a nice round.

It's got to be .22 lr. Our family has several long guns and handguns so chambered.
Twenty-twos are a basic rural dweller's tool. I've used several for pest control, hunting small game, plinking, informal targets, trapline dispatch (hate using a club), shooting hogs and steers for butchering (.22 mag works better IMHO)...you name it.
Shorts or lrs or reduced noise ammo, you can't go wrong with a good .22.
I have .22 mag but that gets used for woodchucks and coons in the garden.

22 lr cci Stinger . 22 mag or 17 I would rather use the mag. For trapped critters I use 22 cal. shorts

.22 is the main stay for me. I have shot more short HP's than Lr's though. The Longs ya used to be able to buy were good to. I have taken everything from mice to deer with a .22.
I love my .22 mag also. got it for shootin yotes back in the 70's and won't be without it. I am looking for a new one though. Or a new 22 hornet. The one of those I have is a fantastic custom built gun, but I want to keep it to pass on now.
BTW....a 22 mag and a 17 are the same loads. Only difference is the weight/size of the bullet. The lighter bullet is faster, but does it still have the power over 100 yards?
