This base will be bolted to the floor directly under the pulley. It swivels so we can turn the critter if need be. We will open the coons (or coyotes) by starting the back legs then hang them on the gambrel, clamp the hide from each leg in the vice grips and let the winch do all the pulling.
Close up on the clamps. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU REMOVE THE SPRINGS FROM THE GRIPS BEFORE WELDING, OR THE HEAT WILL RUIN THEM!!!
Here's the whole bottom of the set up bolted in place...
Here's the winch/gambrel...
A close up of the swiveling connection I built...
The whole deal is close to the wall so I may need to turn the critter to get around all of where I need to.
I also have a varity of gambrels to use to get more height out of it if I need it.
Want to see it in action? ...
Start off on a table by making a cut from the heal to just about 2" up the belly from the vent on both back legs. Cut around the hind feet without cutting the tendon on the back of the feet and pull the hide down the legs a little ways. Hang the coon on the gambrel as shown by poking the points between the tendon and bone on each hind leg...
Raise the coon to a comfortable working position with the winch and make a cut from the middle of the tail up on each side of the vent to the original cut down the legs....
Then pull the legs down by hand to just below the tail and insert a dowel under the tail (save your thumbs, big time)...
Grab both sides of the dowel and pull down hard til the tail is stripped to the end of the cut...
Put your tail stripper on the tail and pull the tail out of the hide with your other hand...
Now your ready for the electricty...
Lower the winch down and fold the end of the leg over so only fur touches in the clamps....
both legs clamped...
Now turn on the winch and pull til the front legs are exposed...
Insert your dowel under the legs and pull down...
cut the fur off the front feet and pull with the winch til the ear cartilage is exposed and cut toward the head to remove the ears...
Pull with winch til the eyes and cut in same as the ears...
Pull again with the winch til only the nose is attached and cut it off. You're done...

PS. no patent pending, copy away. LOL
