As the trapping season goes along we tend to not think about the scrapes and cuts and other wounds we get. Word of caution here the animals we trap are some of the most infectious things we can handle. Always watch the cuts and wounds you receive closely. They can become infected in a few hours. I know this first hand. As if i would have waited much longer last yr i would have been trapping this yr with one hand instead of two. Make sure your tetanus shots are current. and always disinfect any scratch cut or abrasion. The swamps, ponds, and rivers are full of bacteria that would love to get a hold of you.

Believe it or not, I used to keep a bottle of listerine in my shed. Rinse your hands with listerine and you will know where every little cut is, but it is one of the best disinfecents this side of whiskey.
Get a small cut out on the line and your in swampy brackish water and you don't have any disinfectent? Spit on it! Suck it and spit on it. Your saliva has enzymes and antibiotics that will kill a lot of viruses and bacteria.
