How hard is it to make regular jaw traps into OS traps.

I have never done it; but, It would require grinding the jaws which you have now down. It would then weaken the strength of the jaws. You would have to make sure there were no sharp edges where you ground them. Would be time consuming, as you would have to be careful not to get the jaws too hot, thereby affecting the temper of the jaws and making them brittle. If you went the other way, and put something between the jaws so they wouldn't close all the way, you would lose holding power. My suggestion would either be to sell the traps you have now, and buy new, or buy offset jaws to go in the ones you have. This is just my opinion.
Blakcoyote could tell you more info as he does trap mods.

Pretty much what Earl said. If you do grind the jaws, you need to take an even amount off each side where the bump is by the levers. Take it a little at a time and check it as you go by bringing the lever up to see if you took enough off. Heres a pic of a Duke I did. You can see where I ground and how little I took off. These where lugged with a built up bead of weld between the jaws.

Thanks. Their also inside laminated. The guy wanted them for gray fox and needed just an 1/8" offset to be legal.

Thanks Earl. Been busy doing mods up I'm delivering at the FTA convention, trying to cover the boards I go on but find myself running short on time. Gonna be a busy week for me. Hope to meet a few more trappers from the forums.
